Developed by the International Relations program former student, Camila Arusa Perdono, in co-authorship with Professor Tamires Aparecida Ferreira Souza, coordinator, the article “Feminist Theory and the Americans in World War II” was published in Tensões Mundiais Magazine – Edition Theme: Women and Nation. The magazine is linked to the State University of Ceará and recognized for its high quality, being rated with A2 excellence by Capes*.
The work was developed throughout the year 2020 and is a delimitation of the program final paper of the former student, who analyzed the roles assigned to Soviet and American women in World War II. Encouraged by Professor Tamires, Camila dedicated herself to the production of an article focusing only on the participation of Americans for the magazine. The research was based on books that reported the female experience in warfare, articles on Feminist Theory, studies on the reality of society at the time, in addition to the analysis of the historical context and the reasons that led women to the battlefields.
Camila explains that the objective of the study was to remove the “ties” of society about female fragility. “I like to think that it contributes, even if it’s 1%, to making society understand that we women have a voice, strength, determination and that we know how to defend our homeland and ourselves”, she says. Given this purpose, she is happy for the article publication, which contributes to giving greater visibility to the subject, also for having her work recognized among so many others. “After completing the article, I managed to further develop my final paper, which was the ‘icing on the cake’ of my undergraduation. I ended my academic cycle presenting the best work I could, with a theme that makes me very proud”.
The student’s achievement is a source of great pride for Unaerp. “The approval and publication of the article demonstrate the excellence of the research, the text and the student, as well as the essentiality of the topic in the area of International Relations. The theme of gender in International Security studies is still in its infancy, and Camila has entered this field, promoting a rich debate and favorable reflections”, highlights professor Tamires.
