International Relations program promotes course on the war in Ukraine

This Wednesday, the 16th, at 7 pm, the extension course “Understanding the Crisis in Ukraine: Issues and Actors” began, promoted by the Unaerp International Relations undergraduate program. With the presence of speaker Clarissa Forner, a specialist in foreign policy, who discussed “US-Russia relations and the Ukraine crisis: a historical overview”, the event was held at Bassano Vaccarini Theater, and broadcast simultaneously by Google Meet.

Open to the academic community of Unaerp and the external community, the event consists of four meetings, held on Wednesdays. The objective is to provide a deeper understanding of the historical event, explains Matheus de Oliveira Pereira, professor of the International Relations program and the event organizer. “We think of this course as a way to expand the training of our students in such a sensitive topic that has gained so much projection at the moment”.

According to Professor Sandra Molina, Coordinator of the International Relations program, the course represents a reflection on the information we receive daily about the conflict, as it seeks to “explain to people what is behind the media smokescreen of the advertisements that are made by the sides involved”.

The student of the 5th period of the International Relations program, Isabelle Helena Nogueira Moretto, emphasizes the importance of these classes for discussion and the presentation of a broad view of the world. “We learned to have a critical sense to reflect on the events that are happening and to better understand our internal and external politics, and how these events affect our daily lives”, she concludes.

In the next classes, the course discusses “The role of energy and infrastructure in the Russo-Ukrainian War”; “The vision of the actors: the United States” and “Ukraine in Russian foreign policy: history, interests and perspectives”, on 03/23; 03/30; and 04/06, respectively.
