Professors and collaborators from Unaerp were received June at the headquarters of Mercosur

Professors and collaborators from Unaerp, Danilo Garnica Simini, Beatriz Selan, Leny Paschoal, Sumara Hassan and Eliana Muniz were received on 20 June at the headquarters of Mercosur (Southern Common Market) in Montevideo, capital of Uruguay.

The group was received by the Secretary of Institutional Communication of the Mercosur Parliament (PARLASUL) Rafael Nascimento Reis, who gave a presentation on the functioning of Mercosur and, in particular, on the Mercosur Parliament (PARLASUL).

Mercosur Mercosur is a regional bloc created in 1991 through the Treaty of Asunción. Brazil, Argentina, Paraguay and Uruguay are the founding countries. Subsequently, Venezuela was incorporated into the bloc as a full state, but is currently suspended because of the serious human rights violations that have occurred in its territory. In addition, Bolivia is in the process of joining the bloc. Each president of each country assumes the presidency of Mercosur temporarily for six months. The president of Brazil, Jair Bolsonaro, will assume the rotating presidency of the bloc in July.

The regional bloc has a Parliament, called the Mercosur Parliament (PARLASUL). Each Mercosur country has representatives in PARLASUL. Brazil has federal deputies and senators who work in PARLASUL, and the meetings are monthly and held in Montevideo, capital of Uruguay. It is expected that in the near future Brazil will hold direct elections for PARLASUL parliamentarians. Thus, Brazilian voters will be able to choose their representatives in Mercosur, just as they do in the European Union Parliament.
