Unaerp Professor and Researcher Appointed Full Member of Prestigious Sigma Xi

Professor André Pitondo da Silva, researcher in Microbiology and faculty member in the Graduate Programs in Biotechnology, Dentistry, and Environmental Technology, as well as in the undergraduate programs in Dentistry and Physiotherapy at Unaerp, has been appointed as a Full Member of Sigma Xi, one of the world’s most prestigious scientific honor societies. This recognition is awarded to researchers who have made significant contributions to science and society across various scientific fields.
Founded in 1886, Sigma Xi has historically played a crucial role in promoting and advancing scientific research. Its membership includes over 200 Nobel Prize winners, such as Albert Einstein, Enrico Fermi, Richard Feynman, Linus Pauling, Francis Crick, James Watson, Barbara McClintock, John Goodenough, and Jennifer Doudna.
Professor Pitondo-Silva’s work in Microbiology spans medical, oral, environmental microbiology, and biotechnology, focusing on antimicrobial resistance and bacterial pathogenicity. The integration of these areas aligns with the interdisciplinary One Health approach, promoting interconnectedness between human, animal, and environmental health. His research has significantly contributed to scientific knowledge, benefiting society and fostering the development of new researchers.
